CommVault Systems (CVLT), a major supplier of data and information management software, is moving into the emerging cloud-computing market to help clients cut costs.
The New Jersey-based company's Simpana 9 software lets companies store their data and applications in the Internet cloud, or off-site servers that can be accessed as needed. The cloud can help a company cut its hardware and software costs.
Simpana 9 also offers data deduplication, backup, archival and other data management functions. CommVault was among the first to offer deduplication, which helps companies cut costs by limiting the amount of duplicated data they store.
