EMC Corp. has launched ProSphere, a storage resource management (SRM) application that will eventually replaces its ControlCenter product.
The first version of ProSphere replaces ControlCenter's Performance Manager, and provides a view of storage assets throughout a SAN. Kevin Gray, EMC's SRM marketing manager, said ProSphere has been tightly integrated with VMware as well as EMC's latest storage systems. ProSphere is agentless. Gray claims it can install in less than an hour, and can manage more than 1.2 million volumes, 36,000 SAN ports and 18,000 hosts.
