Commvault has announced three separate new initiatives. In a significant new product integration, CommVault and Dell have announced a strengthening of their strong OEM partnership with the introduction of the Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance, powered by CommVault with Simpana 8. Secondly, CommVault is introducing "Cloud DR," a mid-market disaster recovery offering hosted at Rackspace that enables customers to realize higher levels of business continuity without the large capital investments typically required by traditional, off-premises disaster recovery solutions. And finally, CommVault and Mezeo Software have partnered to provide enterprises and service providers with secure, reliable and cost-effective cloud-based data management solutions by seamlessly integrating CommVault's cloud-optimized Simpana software with the Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform.
All three of these initiatives follow-up CommVault's initial move into the cloud storage arena last February.
The Dell appliance features increased optimization by Commvault for embedded deduplication for the DL Appliance, which reduces storage by up to 95 percent. It is ideally suited for remote offices and any business looking to deduplicate, backup, archive and recover data to and from public and private storage cloud environments, the new DL Appliance provides up to 24 TBs of internal storage capacity in a 2U form factor, with ability to scale to over 300TB. Additionally, the DL Appliance delivers end-to-end block-based deduplication and can achieve deduplication throughput rates up to 3 TB/hr when performing weekly backup operations. It can also facilitate faster backups and restores of both physical and virtual environments, with both VMware and Hyper-V protection options.
