CommVault Blog - Randy's Microsoft Power Play

  About the Author

Randy De Meno is one of the longest tenured CommVault employees joining "AT&T/CommVault" in 1994. Back then, Randy led the charge for CommVault to move out of the "UNIX-only" paradigm towards providing a heterogeneous data management solution. Randy led the development efforts for CommVault's Microsoft, Banyan and Novell solutions. In addition to contributing to dozens of CommVault patents, Randy initiated the move to CommVault's current Windows-based solution along with spearheading CommVault's partnership with Microsoft. That partnership was based on the long term vision of what Simpana software has become today and the performance of the Windows architecture.

Not only does Randy lead CommVault's solution and worldwide partnering efforts with Microsoft, but he has also initiated the CommVault Hockey Helping Kids program — a charitable program under which CommVault has worked with customers and partners for more than a decade to raise awareness and over $330,000 for various children's charities.

Prior to CommVault, Randy was the Strategic Director for Banyan Systems. Randy is married with three children, is a supporter in the fight against Autism and earned of a Bachelor's of Science degree for Computer Applications from Wagner College.

The Tides of Infrastructure are a Changing

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Every 3 or 4 years Microsoft ushers in a new wave of upgrades and new functionality in their products. Right now is a unique time as Microsoft is simultaneously delivering new scalability and performance benefits from the data center out to the edge by ushering in new versions of Windows (Server and Client), Exchange, SharePoint and Mobile.

As enterprise customers rapidly adopt virtualization and move to the cloud, these major platform upgrades provide a great opportunity for businesses to evaluate their data management requirements and solutions, often giving IT organizations an excellent reason to look (or relook) at CommVault and our converged Simpana software platform that delivers universal data access and availability.

That's why it's imperative that CommVault stays ahead of the curve in providing full technology integration and support for Microsoft's operating systems and application platforms at the time of launch. Most recently, we announced that the Simpana 9 data and information management platform is fully integrated with Windows Server 2012, including the Microsoft Cloud OS and the latest performance and migration capabilities of Windows Hyper-V and the Windows Azure Cloud platform.

CommVault is co-sponsor for the Windows Server 2012 launch and I've even been lucky to participate in a recent keynote speech at Microsoft's Cloud OS Signature Event Series, and will do so again in Denver (10/10) and Philadelphia (10/11). I’m extremely excited to share the stage with longtime Microsoft veteran and General Manager of Windows Server, Gavriella Schuster. Gavriella has been at Microsoft almost as long as I've been at CommVault (while I look the part, by the looks of things, she must have started working at Microsoft when she was 12).

After the recent keynote in Houston, Gavriella and I discussed our partnership. Take a look as we talked about a few of the new features in Windows Server 2012, especially the new Hyper-V capabilities and the long standing partnership/support CommVault has had for Microsoft. You can check out the video below.

If you're looking for technical support, demonstrations or trials you can also find us at Microsoft's Technology Center (MTC) locations worldwide and, in addition to the Cloud OS Signature Event Series, we'll be at the upcoming Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2012, November 12 – 15, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Randy De Meno is CommVault's Chief Technologist for Windows Products.
