I think that one of the most interesting things about my role at CommVault is that I have the opportunity to work with an exciting variety of cloud companies and can see first-hand all of the new ways they are solving problems. CommVault cloud providers are constantly tackling new markets and one of the hottest trends we are seeing is in the need to protect laptops and desktops for businesses. I've had several companies come to me this year with thousands of users and 100+TB of data to protect. And while they want to protect the data, they don't want to manage it themselves. Often "edge data" goes unprotected and companies just don't have the staff to deal with it internally. The cloud is a perfect fit for non-critical data as it offers a new tier of low-cost storage wrapped with range of data management services.
IT-Lifeline is combining best of breed technologies to deliver innovative, best in class services to their clients. IT-Lifeline, one of CommVault's strategic service providers, is leveraging the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud to provide a secure DR cloud called BLACKCLOUD Edge, which costs customers as much as 50 percent less than traditional disaster recovery services. IT-Lifeline has seen the demand for remote/laptop data protection in the enterprise and, as a result, is planning to launch an Edge Data Protection service to meet the needs of its customers. Matt Gerber, IT-Lifeline CEO, gave us some insight on the matter. "We're looking at mobile devices like laptops, iPads, and phones, and how to protect them with lower cost targets like the cloud. The key is to make it easy, like Dropbox, but more secure for enterprise environments. The combination of technology from CommVault Simpana software and Amazon Web Services enables us to put together this type of offering for our clients."
By using the Simpana software Edge Data Protection solution, service providers like IT-Lifeline are simplifying management, improving availability, and reducing costs while exceeding most requirements for scale, security and compliance. Simpana software can easily and securely protect endpoint data from centralized deployments of a few hundred systems all the way up to large scale, distributed environments with thousands of systems. Whether you are a company looking to outsource their data protection needs, a service provider like IT-Lifeline or a company focused on managing edge data on your own, the strength of the Simpana product suite can help you accomplish your goals.
